AirShare mobile release

The AirShare mobile app has been updated with various new functions and features for drone pilots. Please see below for the latest AirShare mobile app release details.

This release has been a key focus of the AirShare development team, in efforts to improve the AirShare experience for both drone pilots and air traffic controllers.

We hope this latest mobile release is useful. We welcome feedback and suggestions on how we can continue to improve the pilot app. Please email through any ideas or feedback to us at info@airshare.co.nz.

Please note:  The minimum supported phone operating systems (OS) for this latest release of AirShare will shortly be updated, to version 12 for Android and version 15 for Apple iOS.  If you’re using the AirShare mobile app but not on these OS versions or higher, now might be a good time to update! We will let you know when these minimum supported versions will be required for the app.

Activation improvements

Pilots will now be able to see a flight they have activated, in the advisory box at top of screen.

Nearby activated flights

Pilots with activated flights will be able to see other activated flights on the map screen (as a green pin). If a nearby flight activates, this will display in the advisory box at top of screen. An advisory box will display for each flight activated nearby.  Click on the box to go to the activated flight.

Nearby activated flights – additional information

Pilots can select nearby activated flight IDs from a box at the bottom of the screen to view additional information, consistent with the pilot web view for nearby flights. Additional information will display below the ‘squares’ and above the menu, including flight ID, end time in 24-hour format (with the date), and drone make/model along with the flight Upper Alt in the squares.

Nearby activated flights – push notifications

Pilots can now receive notifications on the mobile app for a nearby activated flight. Clicking on the notification will take the pilot to the nearby activated flight on the map. Please note that these notifications will only be received if the application is running in the background.

Mobile flight status colours updated

Flight status colours have been updated to match the colours on the AirShare web app.

Cancellation of flight authorisation

Cancellation of flight authorisation notification:

Flight details warning:

  • In the Flight Plan Details screen, a warning message will display above the weather panel: “Authorisation for Flight ID XYZ has been cancelled due to the following reasons:”. This warning will take precedence over any other banners or information displayed.

Layer selection for maps

The pilot now has the ability to view different map layers, as per on AirShare web.

Allow a declined activation to be re-requested

If a digital activation request fails or times out, pilots can now re-request, as per on AirShare web.

Pilots can now view the control tower schedule for the day of flight in the Flight Plan Details screen.

The Tower Schedule for Advisories can be viewed by clicking on the Advisories available on the sliding panel in the Map screen.

Further updates coming soon...

We will shortly be enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the AirShare mobile app to further enhance security.
